"The work with UK teachers is exciting because we want to learn about collaborative and constructive learning which includes understanding democratic procedures and processes that are familiar in the West.
"What is very new for us working with UK is the development of topic work and project learning. We have very little practice in this kind of independent learning. As teachers we are using this international project to learn about managing children's projects in the classroom and giving them more autonomy as learners."
Lenka is working with Melanie Maher, another Mirandanet Fellow from Coombe Girls' School, England.
Good teachers and good students: A MirandaNet Collaborative Project A core group of MirandaNet Fellows come from the Czech Republic. Emerging from a totalitarian government they are concerned that their teaching profession is fixed in the use of authoritarian modes of teaching both pupils and teachers. Over the last four years they have valued international curriculum exchanges as an important aspect of teachers' learning. MirandaNet workshops, seminars and on-line continuity facilitate teachers in developing curriculum projects. One of the Czech Fellows, Lenka Zeranova explains the process.
"I was selected to attend MirandaNet workshops in London and Prague about the Internet in teaching when I designed a collaborative project with Melanie Maher, a MirandaNet Fellow from Coombe Girls School in New Malden near London. We submitted this project for Socrates funding with a Norwegian partner school we found through the Internet.
This project is called the Good Teacher. Three teachers from our staff are working with me and our overall aim is to widen our education to include working with teachers in other countries. We feel that after a long period of political isolation our Czech teachers can gain from seeing how other teachers work and sharing their concerns and interests."
