Personal Statement
I qualified as a geography teacher but retrained in EFL/ESL and then ICT and computing. After a longish stint in the commercial sector I returned to education in 1997. Currently I am an assistant head in a large hospital school in London.
Educational Interests:
I am passionate about the role ICT can play in helping to make learning fun, challenging and relevant to the needs of the 21st century and how it can lessen the impact of educational discontinuity for young people in hospital and at home with chronic illness. I am also interested in the use of games technology to help motivate and inspire within the four walls of a hospital setting.
ICT Interests
Currently developing links with hospital schools in the UK and elsewhere and raising awareness of issues realting to hospital education. e.g. Teachers’ TV - Off Sick but in School and Linkedin (Hospital Teachers Group). Am keen to develop the use of technology within a hospital setting to enable young people stuck on wards and/or in isolation to participate in schoolroom events and lessons more fully. To this end the School has been working with the e-Learning Foundation to equip pupils with their own laptops for use at home, in school and in hospital.
