Personal Statement
I am currently Head of Art & Design at Ranelagh School and have held this post since September 1996. I have been appointed Lead Teacher for Art & Design in the Bracknell –Forest LEA since 2000. The most recent and exciting development in my career has been related to the development of a sculpture courtyard at Ranelagh School working with some of our feeder primaries in a cross phase, multi-media, multi-cultural project.
I secured a business partner in Oracle UK who began a sponsorship programme with the Art department in 1999 to develop the project over three consecutive years to cover all the Key Stages.
My involvement with Oracle has developed my interest in ICT and MirandaNet has accepted me as a Fellow. This has enabled me to develop on-line learning within the project using www.think.com for the benefit of teachers and pupils alike.
I feel that we are still in the infancy of our development with ICT as a department. I strongly believe that as an artist our lives are becoming more and more integrated with technology. Therefore we should find ways to compliment the practical aspects of the subject with the various programs and software which can inform and help develop creativity in a practical way, as well as developing on-line learning and communication with think.com.
The first two phases have used a digital artist in developing awareness in the use of ICT to inform practical work and to work in collaboration with children, teachers and sculptors in residence. He also developed web pages for the project to date, that can be accessed via www.ranelagh.bracknell-forest.sch.uk under the heading of Other.
The third phase is currently underway. Our business partner Oracle UK is joining us on our 6thform Art & Design study trip to Florence in March. Students will develop an on-line diary using think.com as well as their visual diary.
