Personal Statement
Head of Health and Social Care and Childcare at the Ravensbourne School, Bromley. Began as a Biology teacher with a love of both Psychology and Ecology. My BSc was in both. After setting up the health and Social Care Department I gained an MA in Education Management which included a project on accelerated learning through Science.
ICT Interests
One time NOF trainer, teacher of GNVQ ICT and Key Skills Coordinator for my school, I see great value in the use of ICT to enhance education at all levels. In my own courses the students use ICT seamlessly in their courses to develop their work and gain ICT skills at the same time. My latest interest is in the use of video conferencing to aid teaching and learning and so raise attainment through ownership of the topic by the students taking part all over the world.
Recent Projects
These include working on the SEEVEAZ Key skills project to develop on-line materials for Key Skills. Working over a period of three years, the group evaluated materials already available and wrote some of their own for internet use. Most recently is coordination of a Comenius 1 Schools Project on Health in Europe. The first year saw the creation of a questionnaire which asked students about various health issues such as Health care in their country, what food they eat, how much they exercise, their attitudes to drugs and whether they check their own health. The questions were asked to 100 students in each school and collated onto a CD ROM together with the analysis. The second year was focussed on Exercise, and saw the development of an Exercise routine for use in the class room to raise the attainment of students by helping them to focus and increasing blood supply to the brain. Now in its final year, the focus in on Food - both Healthy and Traditional foods. This will include students arranging a Healthy Food day in the schools, bringing together ideas of Healthy foods that students would enjoy, and of course traditional foods from all the countries involved - perhaps for a recipe book.
