Personal Statement
I am currently Lecturer in ICT in Education at Goldsmiths College, London University. I am responsible for co-ordinating ICT developments in the Department of Educational Studies and for course development and teaching ICT on undergraduate and postgraduate courses. I am also developing a number of research projects on new media and new technology.
ICT Interests
I have worked in ICT in Education for a number of years, in a number of different roles; as teacher educator, advisor and, for ten years before that, as a primary teacher and co-ordinator. Before coming to Goldsmiths, I worked at the University of East London between 1998 and 2002, where I co-ordinated ICT on the Primary PGCE and MA programmes. This role followed two years working as an ICT advisor in the London Borough of Newham. Prior to that, I was fortunate, when I worked as a teacher at Harbinger Primary in London Docklands to be involved in a number of exciting projects in primary ICT. It was here that I became aware of the potential of both networks (school – wide, not stuck in one room!) and portables. It was also while working here that I first became involved in MirandaNet.
Recent Projects
My most recent projects have been in the area of developing resources for teacher education. In addition to writing self-study materials and texts for teachers in training (see “Publications” below), I have developed online areas for resources, conferencing and learning at UEL and am working on them at Goldsmiths. I have been involved in extensive programmes of both physical refurbishment of lab spaces, course design, in-house training and the integration of new technology into teaching and learning (laptops, whiteboards and, now, digital video). I am interested in setting up projects which involve teachers in partnership schools with LEAs and City Learning Centres and engage them more fully with the possibilities of newer technologies in the classroom, particularly in effecting curriculum change. I am in discussion with LEA advisors about how to take these projects further. My other research interests are listed in the main departmental pages on the Goldsmiths website.
