Personal Statement
I have been involved in ICT in education since the mid-70s, cutting my teeth on Macs and the ZX81! My main interest is in using ICT as a means of promoting international communication at an early stage, and to help students better realise their potential via techniques such as multi-modal representations. I also like to explore the potential of new technologies - for example iPod style video players which are already part of the youth context and therefore an acceptable, portable and affordable vehicle to convey project or topic information. Digital video photography and web site design/build are sidelines which I use as support media.
ICT Interests
After ten years as an engineer I joined the IT industry in 1983. Most of my career has been internationally based covering business management, marketing and consultancy. From this experience I have learned that cultural differences are to be cherished and the common fundamentals of life regardless of geography are worthy of recognition. From this I have developed an interest in doing what I can to bring children of diverse nationalities together using ICT as the tool to remove the borders and obstacles inherent in physical travel. I can also see parallels between the tools we use in the commercial world and their applicability in the education process to maximise productivity and realise individual potential; graphical rather than literal assembly of ideas and information for those with written/verbal issues being one example.
Recent Projects
I have been involved in various international projects, lectured on the use/evolution of ICT in industry, and written articles about the use of ICT from Early Years up to KS2.
