Personal Statement

An ex English teacher, predominantly in the independent sector since leaving Warwick University with an MA and a PGCE in 1981, I have wide ranging commercial experience of educational technologies, having been a Director of Learning Evolution at Digitalbrain, a tutor with Teach First, Senior Education Specialist with RM plc where I won the Entrepreneur of the Year competition in 2009 and now at CfBT where I am principal consultant. My books, John Donne: The Poems, and An Introduction to Shakespeare's Late Plays, are both available from Macmillan.

ICT Interests

Essentially an academic teacher of English literature working in the private sector, my enthusiasm for ICT came from the earliest days of the internet. Unusually, through a DfES secondment to Hackney, and by working for Teach First, I have also worked in some of the UK's most difficult secondary schools. Above all, my concern is to see ICT enhance and enrich teachers' and pupils' experiences of school life.

Recent Projects

I was very heavily involved in RM's contribution to the Building Schools for the Future programme for more than 5 years, since its inception, working closely with a range of architects, builders and designers. More recently working for CfBT on school improvement projects abroad and advising across the group on appropriate and sustainable technologies to a wide range of programmes. On the steering committee of Educators for Reform, for the independent thinktank, Reform.
