The core team

Christina Preston Chair of MirandaNet Fellowship Managing Director of MirandaNet
Christina is the Managing Director of MirandaNet Limited and the Chair and Director of the MirandaNet Fellowship. She is an advocate of advanced technologies as a catalyst for change in teaching and learning. The MirandaNet Fellowship was founded in 1992. There are now Fellows across the world and six chapters in Australia, Bulgaria, China, Czech Republic, Ireland and South Africa and a seventh in the North of England. MirandaNet Fellows often consult for MirandaNet projects in partnership with government agencies and companies.

Christina has been engaged in implementing a social constructivist theory of learning within the MirandaNet Fellowship since she founded the organisation. This specific approach to community of practice creativity is now called Braided Learning. Christina is working on this concept and planning an ebook about the process and theory with Dr Bryn Holmes.

Other recent MirandaNet research, development and dissemination projects focus on ICT policy and practice, the building of web-based communities of practice nationally and internationally, private public ICT partnerships, innovative models for ICT teacher education, the development and evaluation of web resources for teachers by teachers, international citizenship, thinking skills and creativity.

Christina Preston holds honorary Fellowships at the Institute of Education, University of London, and the Czech Technical University, Prague, and is a director of InishNet. She is a Fellow of the Plato World Academy and the Royal Society of Arts and member of the British Computer Society, the Society of Authors and the National Association of Advisers in Computers and Education (NAACE). For support in building democratic teaching strategies for ICT teacher education in the Czech Republic, Christina Preston holds the Trnkova Medal, Czech Technical University, Prague, where she is also a Senior Associate (2002). The European Union of Women Award for Humanitarian Achievement was conferred in 1998.

Francis Howlett Web Editor
Francis has been involved with MirandaNet since the early days. He is the web editor and manages MirandaLink, the email messaging system. Francis has supported a number of MirandaNet projects including the DfES Web Resources for Teachers by Teachers (WEBRITTE) project, the Web Wise Wapping project, Elapa and Etopia. He has also adapted much of the code on the site which runs the Ejournals and Worldecitizens, as well as the innovative 'Peace Room'.

Anne Dobson Fellowship Secretary
Anne has worked for MirandaNet since 1992 as a secretary, administrator and personal assistant. Anne is also the Fellowship Secretary, managing the news items, events and mailings.

Project consultants

Mara Chrystie Creative Projects Director Creative Projects Director
Mara is Creative Projects Director and former Headteacher at Hermitage Primary School in Wapping. She is experienced in looking at ways to achieve funding for schools and has developed many new initiatives. Her main areas of expertise are citizenship, creative arts and international links.

Dr John Cuthell Independent Consultant
John's ICT interests focus on the ways in which the technology transforms and enables young people. He is particularly interested in the learning strategies that they develop in their own ICT use, and which then permeate the school environment. His current work investigates elearning environments and cognitive transfer.

Margaret Danby Independent Consultant
Margaret is an education consultant specialising in the use of ICT for teaching and learning and in the professional development of teachers. She has considerable experience in project management, evaluation, quality assurance and inspection, and the development and delivery of training programmes and materials for teachers.

Dennis Hook Graphics Consultant
Dennis works as a freelance publicity and marketing consultant specialising in graphic design for a wide range of major industrial, consumer, business, service industry and local government clients.
